Model: IBM Aptiva 2137-E24 and 2137-E34
Operating System: (Note: might work with other versions of this os.)
File: E26FIX.EXE
Comments:
1. Power the system down normally.
2. Power the system on. Press F1 when you see the IBM Aptiva splash screen come up.
3. This will take u to the configuration utility.
3. In the configuration utility, go to the selection for "Product Information".
In the "product information" screen, you will see a reference to either "JW3EN2E", or "JW3EN3E".
For those of u with "JW3EN3E", E26FIX.EXE is the file u want. U r in the right place. Download this file.
For those of u with "JW3EN2E", XA1FLASH.EXE is the file u want. I have also uploaded this file on its own link.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR MAKING THE BOOTDISK AND UPGRADING:
1.Insert a blank 3.5" floppy diskette in Drive A: and Double-Click on the E26FIX.EXE file u downloaded. Running this file will extract the necessary files to create the BIOS flash diskette.
2.Shut the system down completely.
3. Insert the disk u created into the floppy drive and turn the computer on.
4. The BIOS upgrade will ask u to pick a language and then it will ask if u want to change the serial number and type/model number. Answer "NO" to both.
5. When the BIOS is updated, remove the disk and reboot the PC (enter key should do it) and that should be it.
(NOTE: This file is a self extracting disk image created by WinImage. I did it this way because the original file could only make the bootdisk under windows 9x. For those with windows NT/2000 or higher, the original file would not work for making a boot disk. This WinIMage file will make the boot disk under any version of windows.)
