Model: PS/ValuePoint 6382, 6384, 6387 (PS/VP II), 425SX/S
Operating System: Windows 3.1 (Note: might work with other versions of this os.)
File: l6et58a.zip
Comments:
This upgraded mine from L6ET58AUK to L6ET58AUS
This model is not to be confused with the MicroStar MS-6283 here:
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/bios/bos/spt_bos_detail.php?UID=291&kind=1
or the Medion MD-6283 here:
http://www.treiberupdate.de/treiber-download/download-36082-treiber-Medion-Medion%20Bios%20Update%20MD%206382%20(Rev%202.0).html
I expect this file was originally in ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pccbbs/valuepnt/ but that directory was emptied on 13 Apr 2003
This update was not easy to find, but I eventually found it here: http://files.chatnfiles.com/Cream_Of_The_Crop_3/diag/
It didn't show up searching for "l6et58a.zip" on Google. I only found it in Google searching for "Cream_Of_The_Crop_3"
which I found on legypt.net (but they and execnet.com want you to pay a membership fee to download the file!)
The hash of this file should be:
SHA1:
6e0e20ab177455cea95792370a49bde29c8a1d56 l6et58a.zip
MD5:
27f784173b01abfc9760c321b60dc487 l6et58a.zip
MD4:
d6fd54d719129202c77a62235618f058
So on the ed2k network this would be:
ed2k://|file|l6et58a.zip|83408|d6fd54d719129202c77a62235618f058|
I also loaded the URL I got it from into the Wayback Machine:
So it should always be available from there in future.
The description read:
"83,408 [bytes] 03-16-94 Update Flash Bios for IBM PS/ValuePoint Models 6382, 6384, 6387 (PS/VP II).
Just Extract This to a Bootable Floppy, Boot, and Choose "US English" to Update Your ROM."
The READTHIS.1ST file in this says:
"NOTES:
1. Copy all these files to a bootable floppy.
2. Read the instructions in README.FIL.
3. Only US English is available."
(that means you have to choose option "1" when you get the first menu - the other "countries" don't do anything.)
If the update is successful it will display "00" at the end. You can then remove the floppy & reboot.
I hope this is useful to someone still - for an ancient 12 year old PC!
